Mass has been offered in Mead since the 1870s, when the first Bishop of Denver Joseph Machebeuf and other “circuit-riding” priests began stopping in the area.

In 1910, Catholic families bought the old Mt. Zion United Brethren Church and dragged the building a mile down Weld County Road 7 to its present location. The church, a white frame building, is an example of carpenter Gothic architecture popular at the end of the 19th century.

Tthe first Mass in the church was offered on January 1, 1911. In 1929 an addition was built at the rear of the church, which doubled its size. The parish hall was built in 1964.
